A comment on the stepped mountain which all Mayanists acknowledge as an entrance to the underworld (not with military aspects), and so on. By constructing the ball court and designs of the sacred stone monster/mountain with stepped crack in it's head, the polity was able to recreate creation mountain, sacred space, and the axis mundi. It was through this crack they were able to symbolically communicate with their ancestors and supernaturals.

Answer: But what if the splitting of earth between Popocatepetl and Ixtaccíhuatl (from the Puerto Rican Trench to Baja California) had serious repercussions to the land and its people when it occurred, for it was an actual geologic event. Then the sacredness of the ruptured earth would be important.
